That’s the gas 2.1l under there.

Syncro Vanagons weren’t introduced until the 1986 model year, and the diesel was only offered in 1982 in the US.

Doesn’t mean Diesel Syncros aren’t cool.. you just had to make one yourself.

I didn’t catch that one. I don’t remember them making a Type3 (or any rear engined car) with a diesel.

I’m a total Vanagon fanboy and owner, but factory 1.6L diesel Vanagons are awful. They literally have 48hp. The engine can barely move a Rabbit, and when new the Vanagon diesels here often blew up on their way home from the dealership, having never made it up the hill out of town. 1.9L TDI swapped Vanagons, however... those are fantastic.
